The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Edicts was asked:
We have young children, and it is the custom in our country to give them – on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr or Al-Adhâ - something called 'Eidîyah': a small amount of money by way of making them happy and joyful. Is this Eid money a bid'ah (religious innovation) or is it alright to give it? Benefit us, may Allâh benefit you.
The Committee responded:
There is no harm in this, rather it is a good custom: making a Muslim happy - young or old – is something encouraged by the pure Islamic teachings.
From Allâh is all success, and may the praise and peace of Allâh be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his Family and his Companions.
