What is the Cure for Envy? – Shaykh Saalih ibn Fawzaan al-Fawzaan: http://video.dusunnah.com/social-affairs/physiological-issues/what-is-the-cure-for-envy-shaykh-saalih-ibn-fawzaan-al-fawzaan/
Shaykh Saalih ibn Fawzaan al-Fawzaan (hafidhahullaah) answered: "The remedy for envy is that you supplicate (for) blessing [goodness] for your brother. Supplicate (for) blessing [goodness] for your brother. Instead of wishing that the blessing is removed from him, rather supplicate for it to remain and that Allaah places blessing in it. This will not harm you, rather this will benefit you with Allaah. So cure envy with the likes of these matters. Likewise, that which cures envy is that you seek sustenance and perform the means of acquiring it, but for you to sit pathetically and idle, whilst envying those who earn and seek sustenance, and being envious of what Allaah gave them, then [only] you are to blame.
You are the one who fell short, you are the one who abandoned the avenues of acquiring and was lazy. You ought to blame yourself instead of envying people for what Allaah has given them from His bounty. Therefore – O’ servants of Allaah, envy leads to kufr just as it led Iblees. It [may] lead to murder, just as it led Haabeel [the son of Adam] to murder his brother Qaabeel. Indeed Allaah conveys this story to us so that we may take a lesson from it, and also take heed and be cautious of envy.
Envy leads [a person] towards objecting to what Allaah has decreed and predestined, [which necessitates] that Allaah is not Hakeem [all-Wise] and not Khabeer [Perfectly, Completely Aware] and not 'Aleem [All-Knowing], rather He gives to those undeserving or He punishes those undeserving of punishment. This is kufr in the Qadr [pre-decree], therefore envy is a disastrous evil disease, so seek refuge in Allah from envy. Envy – as it has been reported in a hadeeth narrated by Ahmad and at-Tirmidhee: “Envy consumes good deeds similar to how fire consumes firewood.” So be cautious O’ servants of Allaah!! Be cautious of your good deeds and righteous actions being burnt due to envy.
Seek refuge in Allaah from envy and ask Allaah of His bounty, love for your brothers good, love for your brothers good, supplicate for blessings to be bestowed upon them, Allaah is Ever-Generous and All-Knowing. In His Hand is great bounty which He gives to whom He wills. So do not show objection towards Allaah, and thus render your actions null and void without realising; be cautious of envy."

While on the topic of asking Allaah to bless your brother or sister for a bounty that Allaah has bestowed upon them - in their Deen or their dunyaa` or in their physical characteristics - the following advice from Shaykh Maher ibn Dhafer al-Qahtaanee (hafidhahullaah) is highly beneficial in this regard.
"Preventing the evil eye by saying 'Ma-sha`Allaah' or 'Ma-sha`Allaah La Quwata ila billaah' or 'Ma-sha`Allaah Tabark-Allaah' is bid'ah!" by Shaykh Maher ibn Dhafer al-Qahtaanee [The following is not verbatim]
It has spread amongst the people of this era that when one sees something he likes in his brother and wants to avoid the evil eye, he says "Ma-sha`Allaah Tabark-Allaah" or "Ma-sha`Allaah La Quwata ila billaah," thinking it is legislated to be said when he admires something in him so that his evil eye doesn't affect him, such as when he likes his money or his house or his son or his clothes or his farm. As if he didn't mention it, he would hurt him with the evil eye.
Are these statements (in this matter) legislated, or is it bid'ah?
Indeed these statements in this matter are bid'ah, as dhikr and du'aa are acts of worship. And for a worship to be accepted, two conditions - after the Tawheed - have to be fulfilled:
1- Ikhlaas (sincerity), and
2- Ittibaa' (Following the Prophet's Sunnah)
The Ittibaa' is to follow the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam), to do what he did, and stay away from what he stayed away from.
And (seeking nearness to Allaah by) doing what the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) [and his sahaaba] did not do in Islaam is bid'ah. The evidence of that is the words of the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) in Bukhaaree and Muslim: Whoever introduces into this affair of ours (Islaam) what is not from it, it will be rejected.
And in a narration of Muslim: Whosoever does an action that is not from this affair of ours (Islaam), then it is rejected.
And for this worship to be correct, it should be in agreement with the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) in six matters: 1- Az-Zamaan (time); 2- al-Makkan (place); 3- Al-Kam (number); 4- al-Kayf (how, form, manner); 5- Al-Jins (type); 6- Was-Sabab (and reason, cause, or basis).
And if he said "Ma-sha`Allaah" to remove the evil eye, he did not follow the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) in the reason (al-sabab).
To follow the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) is to mention what was ordered by the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) and to say "Baaraka Allaahu Lak" or "Baaraka Allaahu 'alayk" for that reason.
The origin in the remembrance is to stop where the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) stopped. It is not permissible for anyone to mention these innovative statements by his own reasoning or his tradition without any reference to the Qur`aan and the Sunnah and the actions of the Sahaaba (radiallaahu 'anhum).
That mental reasoning or that kind of following is the methodology of the Mu'tazilah.
1) What is the legislated supplication to remove the evil eye?
The Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) has shown this in the most complete way, as it has come in the Muwata of Malik (radiaAllaah 'anhu) that Muhammad ibn Abee Umama ibn Sahl ibn Hunayf heard his father say: My father Sahl ibn Hunayf did a ghusl at al-Kharrar. He removed the jubbah he had on while Amir ibn Rabee'a was watching, and Sahl was a man with beautiful white skin. Amir said to him, 'I have never seen anything like what I have seen today, not even the skin of a virgin.' Sahl fell ill on the spot, and his condition grew worse. Somebody went to the Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam), and told him that Sahl was ill, and could not go with him. The Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) came to him, and Sahl told him what had happened with Amir. The Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said: Why does one of you kill his brother? Alaa` baarakt (Why did you not say, "May Allaah bless you?") The evil eye is true. Do wudhu from it. Amir did wudhu from it, and Sahl (was cured and) went with the Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) and there was nothing wrong with him. [Malik]
In the statements of the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) Alaa` baarakt (Why did you not say, "May Allaah bless you?"), in it is shown what to say when you see something you like in your brother and you are afraid of hurting him with the evil eye. Alaa` baarakt was explained with what has come from Mu'amr al-Uzadi in his collection with a saheeh narration that the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said: If one of you sees what he likes, he must make du'aa for him to be blessed.
And as has come from Ibn Maajah that the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said: If one of you sees something he likes in his brother, he must ask for blessings for him.
As well as narrated by Ahmad in his Musnad and by al-Bayhaqee and al-Tabaraani and al-Hakim in his Mustadrak and also Abee 'Aasim - all through Abee Umama ibn Sahl - and they all agreed upon his statement (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) for the one who was afflicted with the evil eye - Amir ibn Rabee'a: Alaa` baarakt. Its meaning is what has come in the other narration: If you see something you like in your brother, ask for blessing by supplicating.
The supplication legislated for removing the evil eye is the supplication that the Sunnah of the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) has clarified in the explained narrations - among them that he supplicates (to Allaah) for him in blessings as stated by Ibn al Qayyim and Ibn 'Abd al-Barr in their tafsir (explanation) as they said to say, "Allaahumma baarik feeh (mention person's name)" or "(Allaahuma baarik) 'alayhi."
2) Meaning of Alaa Baarakt: (Why did you not say, "May Allaah bless you?")
The blessing means growth or increase. And al-tabrik is the supplication of blessings.
Al-Sooyuti said in al-Deebaaj: the blessings - or al-baraka - is requesting an increase in goodness and dignity, and it was also said cleansing and stability... The meaning of the statement of the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) 'Alaa Baarakt' is explained as: That he supplicates for him in blessings, saying "Allaahumma baarik feeh (mention person's name)" or "(Allaahumma baarik) 'alayhi."
(Understanding) the meaning of the command of the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) Alaa Baarakt (to mean to say) "Taabarka Allaah" is not correct because the meaning of Taabarka Allaah is to glorify and venerate and that is for Allaah in reverance; it has nothing to do with supplicating blessings for the appointed one.
And may the peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad.

The Weakness in Eeman of the one who Envies
During his explanation of 'Aqeedatul Waasitiyyah, Shaykh Muhammad ibn Ramzaan al-Haajiree (hafidhahullaah) said:
"Al-Hasood (the one who has envy, the one who envies, the one who is jealous), his Eeeman in Qada and Qadr is weak...
It is a necessity in the Eeman in Qadr to have rida, to be pleased with what Allaah has ordained. As-sakhat, or being angry exemplifies that you are not pleased with what Allaah has ordained."

10 Ways to Escape the Envy of the Envious Person, from the works of Imam Ibnul-Qayyim (d. 751H, rahimahullaah), relayed by Abu 'Abdillaah Hassan as-Somali (hafidhahullaah)
Summary:
- No doubt, the envier (haasid) can harm the one whom he envies.
- Soorat al-Falaaq comprises seeking refuge in Allaah from every evil in this world!
- If you fear Allaah, their plots and plans will never harm you.
- The harm of the haasid will eventually come back to strike him.
- Imam Maalik (rahimahullaah) said: "Whatever is done for Allaah, it will remain. Whatever is not will perish."
- Rectification starts with the person himself, then his family, and so forth; not as the khawaarij do by blaming the Muslim rulers for their own errors and sins.
- Giving sadaqah has a great effect in repelling the evil eye (al-'ayn); it's very rare that someone who is a MuHsin and gives sadaqah, sacrificing for the sake of Allaah 'Azza wa Jall, it's rare that this type of person is affected in this way.
- If you fear Allaah, Allaah will make the creation fear you.
The 10 Ways - point-by-point - to escape the envy of the envious person:
1- Seeking refuge in Allaah from the evil of the haasid (the envious one).
2- Fearing Allaah, Subhanahu wa Ta'aala.
3- Being patient when dealing with this enemy, and not wasting time via confronting him or arguing with him.
4- Tawakkul (relying on Allaah).
5- Don't even allow your heart to become occuppied with the envier's foolishness, and try your best to erase it from your thoughts.
6- Turning to Allaah and being sincere to Allaah, and making the love of seeking Allaah's Pleasure and repenting to Allaah one's main primary concern.
7- Repenting to Allaah for sins which allowed the enemy to gain asendancy over him; no one is given the ability to overpower a slave except due to that's slave's sins (sins he knows of and the sins he may not know of).
8- Giving sadaqah and treating others well.
9- Repelling the evil with good - and this is from the most difficult upon the soul.
10- Implementing and actualizing Tawheed, which in reality encompasses everything that has preceded, and it revolves around it. And for one to actualize Tawheed, he must learn it. One should learn Tawheed and the right of Allaah upon His slaves.

Note: May Allaah - Al-Haafidh - protect the Muslims from the envious ones and their evil. Ameen. As Shaikhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (d. 728H, rahimahullaah) said: "Envy is a person's hatred of what Allaah has bestowed upon other than him." Aoodhubillaah!
