Shaikh Fawzaan's Refutation of The False Claim "Tawheed Divides the Muslims"
Question: What about the one who claims that the da'wah to Tawheed divides the Muslims, and that they are more in need of knowing the danger of the Jews and Christians? We hope for a clarification from your excellence. May Allaah grant you success, and bless your life and your work.
Shaikh Saalih al-Fawzaan (hafidhahullaah Ta'aala) answered:
I do not believe that the Muslims have become divided due to Tawheed. The Muslims rejoice in Tawheed. They learn Tawheed. No one flees from Tawheed except that he is either an innovator or a mushrik (polytheist), and no consideration is given to this one. The Muslims rejoice in Tawheed, and all praise is for Allaah. The Muslims learn it, welcome it and unite upon it. Their hearts unite upon it.
As for the one who has hypocrisy in his heart or a doubt in his heart or he is a follower of bid'ah (heresy, innovation in the Deen) or a follower of Shirk (polytheism, such as worshipping others besides Allaah), then this is the one who runs away and does not want Tawheed. And no consideration is to be given to this one, and he has no value.
We cannot unite the people upon bid'ah and issues of Shirk and evils.
We unite them upon the Deen, upon Tawheed, and upon Sincerity to Allaah, 'Azza wa Jall (Mighty and Majestic). This is what we want, and this is what will unite the people. Nothing will unite the people except for Tawheed. As Allaah, Subhanahu wa Ta'aala, said:
هُوَ الَّذِي أَيَّدَكَ بِنَصْرِهِ وَبِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَأَلَّفَ بَيْنَ قُلُوبِهِمْ لَوْ أَنفَقْتَ مَا فِي الأَرْضِ جَمِيعاًمَا أَلَّفْتَ بَيْنَ قُلُوبِهِمْ وَلَكِنَّ اللَّهَ أَلَّفَ بَيْنَهُمْ
...It is He Who has supported you with His Help and with the believers. And He has united their (i.e. believers') hearts. If you had spent all that is in the earth, you could not have united their hearts, but Allaah has united them. Certainly He is All-Mighty, All-Wise. (Al-Anfal, ayat 62-63)
Why did Allaah not unite the Muslims with something other than the word of Tawheed? When they said, 'Laa illaaha il-Allaah (none has the right to be worshipped in truth except Allaah alone),' and they purified their worship for Allaah, and they abandoned Shirk, then their hearts became united. And if this had not happened, they would have remained as they were before - dispersed, divided, fighting each other, and killing each other.
So when the Messenger of Allaah (salallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) called them to Tawheed, and they said, 'Laa illaaha il-Allaah (none has the right to be worshipped in truth except Allaah alone),' and they believed in it and acted in accordance with it, then Allaah united their hearts upon Tawheed.
And Imam Malik (rahimahullaah) said: 'The last part of this Ummah will never be rectified except by that which rectified its first part.' Na'am (yes).
