Assalaamu 'alaikum brothers and sisters
Alhamdulillaahi wasalaatu wasalaam 'ala Rasulillaah
I have heard of a programme called 'Al Makatabat Ash Shamela' that allows one to store and search a huge digital library of scholarly works in the Arabic language. Is anyone aware of how a person might obtain this and able to provide some guidance on how to go about obtaining specific books?
A friend of mine has it but he had it copied to him. Is there a source online that you use or have used in the past?
Wasalaamu 'alaikum

May Allaah reward all the brothers who helped me
Alhamdulillaah, it's here: www.shamela.ws > تنزيل
It may be easier (shorter, quicker, more efficient) to download the programme without books (bottom of page, 20MB) instead of with 5300 books (top of page, 1.95GB). Then download books selectively. wAllaahu a'lam.
One way to displaying Arabic on your PC [Windows XP]
Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > 'Languages' Tab > Tick Install files for complex script and right-to-left languages (usually requires the Windows XP CD). After restart - Control Panel> Regional and Language Options > 'Advanced' Tab > Scroll down to Arabic (Saudi). Click Ok. Bismillaah, use the programme.
If Arabic is not pre-installed or installed using the above method, one will find text like this: الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِِ.
It is advised not to consider this 'arabic.

(1) Chapter 112: The One Who Does Not Thank People
218. Aboo Hurayra said: "The Prophet salAllaahu 'alayhi wasallam said, 'The One who does not thank people is not grateful to Allaah.'" [Al-Adab Al-Mufrad, UK ISLAMIC ACADEMY]
JazakAllaahu khairan.
(2) Chapter 195: Someone Giving Advice to His Brother When He Has Not Been Asked For Advice
416. Wahab b. Kaysaan said: "Ibn 'Umar saw a shepherd and some sheep in a bad place and he saw a place which was better than it. He told him, 'Woe to you, shepherd, move them! I heard the Messenger of Allaah (salAllaahu 'alayhi wasallam) say, "Every shepherd is responsibile for his flock." [ibid.]
May Allaah reward you for your advice.
These hadeethaan - are they da'eef?
According Abu Talhah, rahimahullaah's, work, 218 is not da'eef. And neither is 416, though the one before it, 415, is.
