بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Is it allowed to pray the Taraaweeh prayer and the Tahajud prayer in the nights of Ramadhaan?
From the Tele-link lecture “Beacons of Light” with Markaz as Salafi Manchester.
Shaykh: Zayd ibn Hadee al Madkhalee (hafidhah ullaah)
Translator: Abu Sara Abdulilah Lahmami
Question:
We go on, and the third question, that in the nights of Ramadhaan can we pray the Taraaweeh and then pray the Tahajud?
Answer:
The Shaykh (Zayd ibn Hadee al Madkhalee) said the affair in that regard is spacious, one can do that there is no harm in that. If one wants to pray extra there is no harm in that and what we advise is what the Prophet (SalAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) advised (spoken in Arabic and then explanation given), ‘Do the actions that you are able to do, don’t do more than your soul can bear.’ Then he mentioned another hadeeth (spoken in Arabic and then explanation given), ‘Allaah does not keep away from rewarding that person until they themselves keep away from that action’. That is a beautiful explanation he (the shaykh) gave (Arabic spoken again). He explained it by saying Allaah does not stop giving that reward for that action, so long as that person keeps doing that action. So the person can pray and makes his last prayer the Witr (odd number of units) prayer of his night prayers. But I remind you of the statement of the Prophet (SalAllaahu alayhi wasallam), ‘Even if you pray with the Imaam until he leaves, it is as if you have prayed the whole night.’ But if you are really persistent and you really want to pray extra at night and really want to do extra Ibaadah (worship) at night, then there is no harm. The Imaam prays the Witr one rakah (unit); you add another rakah to make it shaf’aa to make it even. Then in the night you can add some more salawaat (prayers) and pray the Tahajud if you wish.
