Shaykh 'Ubayd Ibn 'Abdullaah al-Jaabiree on the Allegation that al-Jarh wat-Ta'deel Divides the Muslims in the West (http://sunnahpublishing.net/shaykh-ubayd-ibn-abdullaah-al-jaabiree-on-the-allegation-that-al-jarh-wat-tadeel-divides-the-muslims-in-the-west/)

[Q]: The questioner says: It has been spread that the fitnah (trial, tribulation) of al-Jarh wat-Ta'deel splits up the Ummah and speaking out against the people of innovation causes separation within the Ummah, especially those living in the western countries. So they split up and distort the representation of Islaam by way of their speech against the mashaayikh, 'This one is a hizbee (biased partisan),' and the likes of that.

[A]: O my son, the Shaytaan has caused this rumour to circulate upon everyone's tongues against Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Hadeeth. The theme of the gathering is clear, so why do you beat about the bush and wander around by mentioning these ambiguities?! Allaah the Glorified and Exalted has refused, except to separate between the truth and the falsehood and the guidance and the misguidance. So why do you generalize?

Have you not come across the hadeeth, which mentions the procession of nations (umam)? It occurs in the Saheehayn (i.e. the hadeeth collections of al-Bukhaaree and Muslim). The Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said, "I saw a Prophet passing and he had with him a raht – it is said this is a group of three to ten people – and a Prophet would pass and he would have with him three followers, and another would have two. And a Prophet would pass and he would only have one man with him. And a Prophet would pass and he would not have anyone with him." [1] This Prophet who will have no one with him, was he sent to himself only? Of course not! He was sent to a nation (ummah). However, that nation rejected his call. And Ahlus-Sunnah never gossip about anyone, ever. They only refute the innovation with evidence. And consideration is not given to a large following, consideration is given to obtaining the truth.

The Shaykh, Muhammad Ibn 'Abdul-Wahhaab (d.1206H) - rahimahullaah - the Imaam of the da'wah and the reviver in the middle of the twelfth Hijree generation, the one who was aided by his brother, al-Ameer Muhammad Ibn Sa'ood – rahimahullaahul-jamee' – derived rulings from this hadeeth, from them: that it is not permissible to forsake a small following, nor is it permissible to have high regard for a large following. [2]

And this is in agreement with a beautiful statement from al-Fudayl Ibn 'Iyaad (d.187H) – rahimahullaah - who said, "Hold fast to the paths of guidance and the scarcity of followers will not harm you. And beware of the paths of misguidance and do not be deceived by the large numbers of those who are destroyed." [3] So the majority have never been mentioned in a praiseworthy manner - ever. [4] We would love that the heads of disbelieving nations accept Islaam and remain upon the Sunnah: the president of America, the president of Russia, the king of Holland, the president of Poland and other than them. We would love that they accept Islaam and remain upon the Sunnah, we do not dislike Islaam and the Sunnah for anyone and we invite them with wisdom and a beautiful admonition.

Concerning Shaikh 'Ubaid ibn 'Abdullaah al-Jaabiree's on-point statement: "So the majority have never been mentioned in a praiseworthy manner - ever," keep in mind Allaah's Perfect Saying: By Al-'Asr (the time). Verily! Man is in loss. Except those who believe and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth and recommend one another to patience. (Sooratul-'Asr)

Then visit TheNobleQuran.Com (http://www.thenoblequran.com/sps/nbq/) Website, click on the search button and then type in: most of. You will In-sha`Allaah get 63 results, all of them mentioning the majority in a dispraiseworthy manner - exactly as Shaikh 'Ubaid (hafidhahullaah) mentioned.

...Nay! the truth is most of them believe not. (Al-Baqarah, ayah 100)

...And had the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) believed, it would have been better for them; among them are some who have faith, but most of them are Al-Faasiqoon (disobedient to Allaah - and rebellious against Allaah's Command). (Aali Imran, ayah 110)

There is no good in most of their secret talks save (in) him who orders Sadaqah (charity in Allaah's Cause), or Ma'roof (Islaamic Monotheism and all the good and righteous deeds which Allaah has ordained), or conciliation between mankind, and he who does this, seeking the good Pleasure of Allaah, We shall give him a great reward. (An-Nisa`, ayah 114)

...And truly, most of men are Faasiqoon (rebellious and disobedient to Allah). (Al-Ma`idah, ayah 49)

...Verily, the Revelation that has come to you from Allaah increases in most of them their obstinate rebellion and disbelief... (Al-Ma`idah, ayah 64)

...But those who disbelieve invent lies against Allaah, and most of them have no understanding. (Al-Ma`idah, ayah 103)

And they said: "Why is not a sign sent down to him from his Lord?" Say: "Allaah is certainly Able to send down a sign, but most of them know not." (Al-An'aam, ayah 37)

And even if We had sent down unto them angels, and the dead had spoken unto them, and We had gathered together all things before their very eyes, they would not have believed, unless Allaah willed, but most of them behave ignorantly. (Al-An'aam, ayah 111)

And if you obey most of those on earth, they will mislead you far away from Allaah's Path. They follow nothing but conjectures, and they do nothing but lie. (Al-An'aam, ayah 116)

Then I will come to them from before them and behind them, from their right and from their left, and You will not find most of them as thankful ones (i.e. they will not be dutiful to You)." (Al-A'raf, ayah 17)

And most of them We found not (true) to their covenant, but most of them We found indeed Faasiqoon (rebellious, disobedient to Allaah). (Al-A'raf, ayah 102)

But whenever good came to them, they said: "Ours is this." And if evil afflicted them, they ascribed it to evil omens connected with Moosa (Moses) and those with him. Be informed! Verily, their evil omens are with Allaah but most of them know not. (Al-A'raf, ayah 131)

Say: "The knowledge thereof is with Allaah (Alone) but most of mankind know not." (Al-A'raf, ayah 187)

And why should not Allaah punish them while they stop (men) from Al-Masjid-al-Haraam, and they are not its guardians? None can be its guardian except Al-Muttaqoon), but most of them know not. (Al-Anfal, ayah 34)

With (good words from) their mouths they please you, but their hearts are averse to you, and most of them are Faasiqoon (rebellious, disobedient to Allaah). (At-Tawbah, ayah 8)

And most of them follow nothing but conjecture. Certainly, conjecture can be of no avail against the truth. Surely, Allaah is All-Aware of what they do. (Yunus, ayah 36)

No doubt, surely, Allaah's Promise is true. But most of them know not. (Yunus, ayah 55)

Truly, Allaah is full of Bounty to mankind, but most of them are ungrateful. (Yunus, ayah 60)

Verily, it is the truth from your Lord, but most of the mankind believe not. (Hud, ayah 17)

And Allaah has full power and control over His Affairs, but most of men know not. (Yusuf, ayah 21)

And most of mankind will not believe even if you desire it eagerly. (Yusuf, ayah 103)

And most of them believe not in Allaah except that they attribute partners unto Him [i.e. they are Mushrikoon - polytheists...] (Yusuf, ayah 106)

Yes, (He will raise them up), a promise (binding) upon Him in truth, but most of mankind know not. (An-Nahl, ayah 38)

All the praises and thanks be to Allaah. Nay! (But) most of them know not. (An-Nahl, ayah 75)

They recognise the Grace of Allaah, yet they deny it (by worshipping others besides Allaah) and most of them are disbelievers (deny the Prophethood of Muhammad). (An-Nahl, ayah 83)

...Nay, but most of them know not. (An-Nahl, ayah 101)

But most of them know not the Truth, so they are averse. (Al-Anbiya, ayah 24)

Or say they: "There is madness in him?" Nay, but he brought them the truth [i.e. "(A) Tawheed: Worshipping Allaah Alone in all aspects (B) The Qur`aan (C) The religion of Islaam,"] but most of them (the disbelievers) are averse to the truth. (Al-Mu`minun, ayah 70)

Or do you think that most of them hear or understand? They are only like cattle; nay, they are even farther astray from the Path. (i.e. even worst than cattle). (Al-Furqan, ayah 44)

So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. (Ash-Shu'ara, ayah 158)

Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. (Ash-Shu'ara, ayah 174)

Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. (Ash-Shu'ara, ayah 190)

Who gives ear (to the devils and they pour what they may have heard of the unseen from the angels), and most of them are liars. (Ash-Shu'ara, ayah 223)

Nay, but most of them know not. (An-Naml, ayah 61)

"Verily, your Lord is full of Grace for mankind, yet most of them do not give thanks." (An-Naml, ayah 73)

Verily, this Qur`aan narrates to the Children of Israel most of that about which they differ. (An-Naml, ayah 76)

Verily, in this is an Ayaah (proof or sign), yet most of them (polytheists, pagans, etc., who do not believe in Resurrection) are not believers. (Ash-Shu'ara, ayah 8)

Verily! In this is indeed a sign (or a proof), yet most of them are not believers. (Ash-Shu'ara, ayah 67)

So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. (Ash-Shu'ara, ayah 139)

If you were to ask them: "Who sends down water (rain) from the sky, and gives life therewith to the earth after its death?" They will surely reply: "Allaah." Say: "All the praises and thanks be to Allaah!" Nay! most of them have no sense. (Al-'Ankabut, ayah 63)

(It is) a Promise of Allaah (i.e. Allaah will give victory to the Romans against the Persians), and Allaah fails not in His Promise, but most of men know not. (Ar-Rum, ayah 6)

...that is the straight religion, but most of men know not. (Ar-Rum, ayah 30)

Say (O Muhammad): "Travel in the land and see what was the end of those before (you)! most of them were Mushrikoon (the disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah, polytheists, idolaters, etc.)." (Ar-Rum, ayah 42)

Say: "All the praises and thanks be to Allaah!" But most of them know not. (Luqman, ayah 25)

And indeed most of the men of old went astray before them. (As-Saffat, ayah 71)

Verily! Those who call you from behind the dwellings, most of them have no sense. (Al-Hujurat, ayah 4)

And verily, for those who do wrong, there is another punishment (i.e. the torment in this world and in their graves) before this, but most of them know not. (At-Tur, ayah 47)

And thus the Prophet (salallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) and the rest of the Salaf (radiallaahu 'anhum) and those Imams and Scholars following their way have thoroughly advised:

- Do not be deceived by the majority. Follow the truth no matter where it takes you, and no matter who opposes you, and no matter how many oppose you.

- Do not be deceived by the fewness of those upon the truth. Hold onto the truth regardless of the fewness of those upon it.

- Follow the Qur`an and Sunnah upon the understanding of the Salaf, and do not fear the blame of the blamers.

- Accompany the Salafees, and do not accompany Ahlul-Bid'ah. Keep Salafee companionship.

Learn your Religion from the pure sources.

If you don't know, ask the people of knowledge (the true Salafee scholars, who relay the Sharee'ah).

'Abdullaah ibn Mas'ood (radiallaahu 'anhu) said (http://www.sayingsofthesalaf.net/index.php/characterless/): "One should get used to the idea that if everyone on Earth disbelieved, you would not disbelieve. Do not be an im'ah (characterless)." He was asked, "And what is an im'ah?" He replied, "A person who says, 'I am with the people (I do what they do).' Verily, there is to be no following examples in evil." [Ibn Battah, Al-Ibaanah Al-Kubraa, Vol.1 p.33]
